i noticed this too. the worst part is that in both scenes, they’re having to argue with their captain to do their job. A+ characterization of kirk right there ugh

the point still stands that both of these characters were presented as (theoretically) really competent at what they did but never actually got a chance to DO anything except look pretty and have no effect on the plot.
#ww a aaaait no im sorry #i understand both sides of this argument #but??? the last but im #’do nothing except look pretty and have no effect’ #uhm #who stabbed a klingon in the fucking leg and went nuts on them #who was the one who got spock in contact with spock prime so that they could get a better perspective of their enemy #who remained a calm center when everything went to hell #who stopped spock from finding SOME way to kill khan and this ruining their chances of bringing kirk back #that would be uhura #who pulled out the core of a torpedo with her own bare hands effectively saving not just her life but bones life #who threw herself in front of khan to try and stop him from taking control of the ship because she wanted to keep her new crew safe #and ended up with a shattered leg and the trauma of watching her father’s (however shitty he was) skull get crushed in for her trouble #that would be carol #argue sexism and jj and whatever all you want that’s not what im getting into here and everyone has their own opinion on it #but sit for a second and think of how into darkness would have turned out without uhura and carol #instead of dismissing them as nothing but ‘pretty and plot-meaningless’(via mirrorsulu)
